Nicola's Notes

True Colours is my first book and as such holds a very special place in my heart. I wrote it over a period of twelve years, off and on, starting when I was at college. Once I started working full-time, my writing had to fit into the evenings and weekends and I wrote three versions of the book before it was accepted for publication. Like many of my books, it is set in Somerset, a beautiful county that I love dearly.

I love old flame stories and always wanted to write one. I was always obsessed with this story and the feeling of destiny that was behind it.

This story is the first of two linked books of which the second is The Larkswood Legacy and features many of the same characters.

About the book

They shared a past…The first person that the Marquis of Mullineaux meets upon his return to England is the very last person that he wants to see – Lady Carberry, the woman who scandalised the Ton by breaking off their engagement.  She is just as displeased to meet the man who sacrificed her reputation to save his pride…  Thrown together by circumstance, Alicia and James find themselves constantly at war with one another, but James is determined to discover the truth about their past…"

True Colours was published in May 1998 in the UK and March 2001 in the USA and was reprinted in the Regency Lords and Ladies Collection in the UK.
