Reviews:

Winner of Best Historical Category In The RWA LORIES Contest 2005 and 2005 Reviewers' Choice Award from Cataromance!

"Nicola Cornick concludes the Blue Stocking Brides trilogy with a spectacular finish! Readers cannot resist turning the pages of this absorbing Regency romance. Nicola Cornick seduces her readers with her vividly portrayed descriptions of the Regency era, wicked wit, nail biting intrigue, sensual emotion and intense romance.
In The Rake’s Mistress, she has created two characters which you will take straight to your heart. Rebecca is a delightful heroine who is strong, feisty and witty and Lucas Kestrel is a deliciously sexy hero no woman can resist.
The Rake’s Mistress is the last book in Nicola Cornick’s spellbinding trilogy and it’s the sort of book you will rush to finish – then wish you hadn’t! Nicola Cornick has truly outdone herself with this fantastic series and I cannot wait to read more of her outstanding historical romances!" Julie Bonello, Cataromance

Four stars from Romantic Times Magazine! "A high action, sexually charged novel of manners."

"Ms. Cornick has crafted a story that ties up all the loose ends from the previous two books to expose the identities of those who are betraying their country. Rebecca and Lucas make a good couple who both have to learn to trust another before they can move ahead. It was a pleasure to read each of the books in the trilogy and this one saved some of the best characters to the last." Rakehell

The Rake’s Mistress is romantic, passionate, mysterious, fun… the list could go on forever. Nicola Cornick finished her trilogy with a bang. The depth of varied emotions that she perfectly portrays will entice you from cover to cover. Lord Lucas may just be my favorite hero ever. I did not want to put the book down and neither will you. Kim Swiderski, Writers Unlimited.

"Lucas Kestrel is a captivating hero. Rebecca Raleigh is an endearing heroine with the strength of a warrior and a heart of gold. Nicola Cornick has written a terrific trilogy." Romance Junkies

About the book

Lord Lucas Kestrel has sworn never to marry yet he cannot cure himself of a troublesome attraction to Miss Rebecca Raleigh, a glass engraver with her own studio and a decidedly prickly attitude to devastatingly attractive rakes!

But Rebecca has several secrets and the path of true love will not run smooth on the way to the third Midwinter wedding...

Nicola's Notes

The first scene in the book, in which Lucas's brother climbs into Rebecca's carriage half-naked was inspired by a real life incident. I was sitting in a traffic queue in Oxford when a naked man streaked along the pavement and disappeared up a footpath! Naturally I wondered how I could incorporate this into a historical story and years later it came in useful!

Another thread - A long time ago I researched a contemporary romance which had a heroine who was a glass engraver. The book never saw the light of day, but the research came in very useful when I decided to give Rebecca that profession in "The Rake's Mistress." Which stories go to show - no research or experience is wasted, and never throw away your notes!
